FAQs

Here is a list of some typical questions I'm frequently asked. Hopefully anything you might want to know is covered here, but If it isn't, feel free to contact me & we can run through any of your concerns.

Q – is reflexology ticklish?

A – No, the pressure used is firm but pleasant & the movements are firm & decisive.  Even ticklish people have been surprised that it has not tickled.  However, if you really are worried about this, we can focus the treatment on the hands which is just as beneficial.

Q - Does reflexology hurt?

Not on the whole - there can be some discomfort when reflex points are being massaged which relate to areas of the body where there is an imbalance.  However, the discomfort should be minimal & temporary & you should feedback to your therapist who will adjust the pressure accordingly.

Q – I have athletes foot – can I still come for reflexology??

A – no, as it's infectious, I won’t be able to offer you a treatment until it has cleared up.  tea tree oil has been shown to be very beneficial as it has antiseptic qualities.  But ultimately you should see a chiropodist for advice on how to treat your athletes foot & once it h therapy for the soul - reflexology FAQs, Reflexology, reflexologist, complementary therapy, holistic, health, relaxation, london, south west, sw, balham, wandsworth, fulham, clapham, tooting, lambeth, allergy, flu, cold, insomnia, stress, fatigue, digestive disorders, ibs, eczema, psoriosis, skin, conditions, pregnancy, conception, bloating, oedema, hayfever, migrane, pms, pmt, menopause, natal, fertility, infertility, indian head massage, maternity, sleep disorders

Q – is reflexology ticklish?

Q – I have a verruca – can I still come for reflexology?

A – yes, we can cover the verruca with a plaster to avoid cross infection & I will work that reflex point on the hand instead.  At the same time, you should see a chiropodist for treatment to clear up the infection.

Q – how will I feel after reflexology?

A – everyone is unique and so everyone reacts differently to treatments: some people feel tired, others feel energised; a lot of people feel very thirsty immediately after & we always recommend that you drink a lot of water after a treatment. you may notice that you need to evacuate your bowels or urinate more frequently after a treatment; some people have claimed to feel more in control and better able to cope.

there could be a temporary worsening of your presenting condition, or other symptoms might appear.  This is known as a healing crisis reaction and is perfectly natural: it is your body’s way of telling you the self-healing process has begun.  Any side-effects should be short lived, but it is important that you let me know about them at the next session as this is all part of your healing process so that I can further adapt the treatment plan if necessary.

Q – how many treatments will I need?

A – everyone is different and the number of treatments depends on a whole host of factors: the condition that you would like help with, your age and general state of health.  An initial course of 6-8 treatments should be enough to remove any blockages in the chi and so restore good health.  At the end of each session, I will be reassessing your individual needs and letting you know how it is progressing.

Q – how can reflexology help me?

A – see page: how can it help me?

Q – are there any conditions that mean that I cannot have reflexology?

A – almost anyone can have reflexology, although there are some exceptions - call me & we can discuss this further.

Q – what sort of questions do you ask in the initial consultation?

A – The consultation form covers your personal details; your medical history; any medicine you might be taking; your GP’s contact details; your family medical history; your lifestyle (eg: nutrition, job, hobbies); any experience you have had of complementary therapies.

Q – are my personal details kept confidential?

A – yes, fully confidential unless I need to discuss them with your GP in which case I will ask for your express permission first.

Q –  do I have to wash my feet first?

A – no, you will be able to relax with your feet in a foot spa for the first few minutes of the treatment while we discuss briefly your experiences since the last treatment.  This helps too to slough off the first layer of stresses and tensions from the day.

Q – will I have to bring anything with me for a treatment?

A – no, everything will be provided here: footspa to wash your feet before the session, towels, powder, cushions for comfort.  However, it would be useful to bring your GP’s contact details with you and the full name of any medication you are taking.

Q – how can I pay for reflexology?

A – I accept cash or cheques.  Cheques must be up to the value of your guarantee card and with details of the guarantee card.  I do not have the facilities for credit card payments.

Q - I have a bunion. Can I still have treatment?

Many people have corns, calluses, bunions on their feet, but these do not prevent you from having a treatment.  In many cases, these can be vital signs shedding light on your health.. If a part of your foot is inaccessible for any reason, the hand is treated instead.

Q - When will I notice the benefits?

A - This varies - some people don't notice any improvements until treatment 4 or 5. Other people notice the benefits almost immediately. Most people find they are more relaxed after treatments and sleep very well for one or two nights after the treatment. As you become more relaxed your body has a chance to rest and repair. Also, by following the after care advice and doing the best you can for yourself, the benefits should be greater.
